Fall Back Into Alignment

The Time Change & Your Aligned Life®
By Dr. Christopher S. Black, DC — The Chiropractic Carnivore
As the days grow shorter and autumn settles into New England, another seasonal change is right around the corner: Daylight Saving Time comes to an end.
On Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 2:00 AM, the clocks turn back one hour.
We may gain an extra hour on the clock, but changing the time can still throw off the natural rhythm of our bodies. Sleep schedules shift. Daylight disappears earlier. Morning routines change. And for some people, energy, mood, focus, and even how the body feels can seem a little different.
At Your Aligned Life®, we believe changes like these are a good reminder of something bigger:
Your body was designed to live according to natural rhythms—not simply the numbers on a clock.
Your Body Has Its Own Clock
Our bodies operate according to a natural 24-hour cycle known as the circadian rhythm. Light and darkness are among the important signals that help regulate when we feel awake and when we feel ready for sleep.
Changing the clocks doesn't instantly change that internal rhythm.
That's why the days surrounding the fall time change can sometimes leave people feeling tired, sluggish, or simply "off." Add shorter days, cooler temperatures, busy schedules, and less time outdoors, and it's easy for healthy routines to get disrupted.
Instead of fighting the season, use it as an opportunity to reset.
Fall Back Into Better Habits
As you turn your clocks back, consider resetting a few other things too:
Prioritize consistent sleep. Try to keep bedtime and wake-up times relatively consistent, even through the time change.
Get outside in the morning. Natural morning light helps provide your body with an important signal that the day has begun.
Keep moving. Cooler weather doesn't have to mean becoming sedentary. Walk, hike, work outside, train, or simply keep your body active.
Keep nutrition simple. Focus on nutrient-dense foods that provide your body with what it needs rather than constantly adding more processed foods, sugar, and unnecessary ingredients.
Pay attention to your posture. More darkness often means more time indoors, sitting, driving, watching television, or looking down at devices.
Stay consistent with your chiropractic care. Don't wait until something hurts to start paying attention to your spine and nervous system.
Alignment Through Every Season
Chiropractic isn't about chasing every ache and pain that comes along.
Traditional chiropractic begins with the relationship between the spine and nervous system and identifying areas of vertebral subluxation that may interfere with normal function.
That's why we talk so much about living an Aligned Life.
Alignment isn't something that matters only when your back hurts.
It's a way of looking at health.
Sleep.Movement.Nutrition.Sunlight.Recovery.Your nervous system.Your environment.
Rather than continually asking what else we can add, sometimes the better question is:
What is interfering with the body's ability to do what it was designed to do?
That is the idea behind one of our guiding principles:
Alignment Before Addition.
Before adding another supplement, another complicated routine, another intervention, or another quick fix, start with the fundamentals.
Remove interference.
Give the body what it needs.
Allow it to function as naturally as possible.
Turn Back the Clock—Not Your Progress
When you change your clocks this November, make it more than another household chore.
Use it as a seasonal reminder to check in with yourself.
How are you sleeping?
How are you moving?
How are you eating?
How much time are you spending outdoors?
And when was the last time you had your spine checked?
The seasons will continue to change. The clocks will move forward and backward. Life will remain busy.
But the fundamentals don't change.
Stay aligned. Stay moving. Keep it simple.
